Option 2 for Review

Lesson Plan: Reflective-Reflective Practices in a Blended Learning for Lifelong Learners

I checked the options for the blog post and this option appealed to me, on a personal level, when events went not as intended. Through reflection and analysis students become aware of their own practice, gain insight in the area of their values, belief, behaviours, assumptions and as well as their colleagues (Harrison, 2010; Finlay, 2008).

Option 2 for Review
One posting: The individual assignment video presentation along with a reflection of the lessons learnt from doing the assignment (video presentation).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_UawZCEeus

I used Schon (1991) reflection model to reflect on the lessons learnt from doing the video  presentation.  Reflection-on-action. Reflection-on-action takes place after the event (Harrison,2010, p. 11).

Reflection on action.
  • The creation of the power point slides, I considered to be an easy task for the presentation of the reflective lesson plan for lifelong learner at college level.
  • Next the puzzling question was how to make a video using the slides.  I remembered screencast–o-matic which I signed up for in July 2019. However, I did not practice using the tool.
  •  Next choice was IPhone recording of power point slides. My go to tool. I set up my props and started recording. However, I noticed that the color was not too good.  I felt terrible as the video exceeded the time limit.  I uploaded the video to my YouTube channel.
Lessons Learnt
  • When using digital technologies select the right tool for the job. In the adventure, Screencast-o-matic would have been the right tool for this assignment as it allows for screen capture of my computer screen and recording, I can narrate with my microphone.
  • When using new digital tools practice using them until you are proficient and confident enough to use it for assignments.  I felt like I should have done that in order for brilliant video presentation.
  • Time management is very important. DO not waiting until the last minute to decide on what tool and how to use it to achieve the correct effect.

The best take-away are:
  • Know the learning environment. For example, grade level, gender
  • Know which digital tools to use and reflect on their strengths/ weaknesses.   As digital technologies are emerging you should have a “basket” of tools to use at all times.
Action Plan
  • Practice
  • Practice
  • Practice
  • and practice some more until perfect

Hi everyone my name is Ilonka Sargent-Capron

Today, This in video I will discuss how I designed a reflective lesson plan to promote critical reflection for my students. USING Schon Reflection in action and On action.

Slide 2
Reflection-in-action takes place while you are doing the action. In contrast, Reflection-on-action takes place after the event.

Slide 3
The reflection Model of Schon shows how to reflect.

Slide 4
Through reflection students become aware of their own practice, as well as their colleagues.

Slide 5
My lesson is for a blended learning class of lifelong learners (ages 18 to 65).  The Unit Subject is Leadership & Management. The Topic is Management Skills.

The lesson summary and focus is the students Management skills and how they are used by managers in the work place.

Slide 6
Specific Learning Objectives
·         Discuss the purpose of Management skills, Schon reflective model (in action and on action),
  • Discuss how to apply the model (in action and on action) in their daily practice at work.
  • Discover their Management Skills based on the Management skills test. (on Action)

  • Analyze the results of their Management Skills test based on their strengths and weakens and reflect on how to improve them (On Action).
  • Create an online blog using blog link, and blog post based on a scenario given. (on Action)

Slide 7
Using Blooms Taxonomy the Lesson Need Higher Order Thinking in order to Promote Students Learning

Slide 8
For the introduction of the lesson, I will use Powtoon to introduce the lesson objectives and engage students in a discussion to describe their management skills.

The Powtoon will cater to various learning styles and decrease bored lessons.

Slide 9
A picture of student bored with just the paper and pen approach

Slide 10
Within the Online Learning Management system like Moodles will be used for Reflection in Action Tools which I will create such as online quiz for example, Multiple Choice, True/False, and Discussion Forums that will provide feedback to students and teachers about their learning. And they can reflect as they learn.
Slide 11

Some Reflection on Action Tools usefull in supporting reflective theories include Online Blog, Online Wiki and Peer Review -  Online Comments in student Blog Posts.

Slide 12
This summative activity. The student will perform a peer review by critiquing each other’s blog post and provide (post) comments.   Peer review develops critical reflective skills.

Classroom and Student   Factors/Grouping:
This is a Saturday class. The blended learning lesson is for lifelong learners (ages 18 to 65). The ability range is mixed as some may be new managers, seasoned managers or aspiring to become managers from different work context. However, there are two exceptional learners who can assist other students as needed. The class size is ten students. The lesson is 135 minutes.
Specific Learning Target(s)/Objectives:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
·         Discuss the purpose of Management skills, Schon reflective model (in action and on action)online discussion and quiz.
·         Discuss how to apply the model (in action and on action) in their daily practice at work
·         Discover their Management Skills based on the Management skills test using link http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMM_28.htm
·         Analyze the results of their Management Skills test based on their strengths and weakens and reflect on how to improve them. Post information in a structured online wiki
·         Create an online blog using blog link www.blogger.com, and blog post based on a scenario given.

Section 2: Instructional Planning
Anticipatory Set
The materials and activities I will use to open the lesson. The Bold is for any materials I will need to prepare for the lesson.

For example:
·         I will use YouTube video clip to recap the last lesson
·         I will use Powtoon to introduce the lesson objectives to engage students the topic/ discussion to describe their management skills.

Time Needed

5 minutes
Multiple Means of Representation
The materials I will use to differentiate instruction and how I will use these materials throughout the lesson to support learning.  Bold is used for any materials I will need to prepare for the lesson.

For example:
·         I will use reflective model to teach students about reflective theory and how to and how to use the model in their daily practice at work.
·         I will use video, pdf. Power point slides to present content in various ways to meet the needs of different learners.

Time Needed

20 Minutes
Multiple Means of Engagement
The activities I will engage students in to allow them to explore, practice, and apply the content are Bold  and I plan to use in the lesson. Also, include formative questioning strategies and higher order thinking questions you might pose.

·         Students will reflective on theory and how to use the model in their daily practice at work. Post in Structured Online discussion in groups of two to discuss their responses
·         Students will discover their Management Skills by taking an online test.
·         Students will analyze the results of their Management Skills test. Complete a two-paragraph reflection on their management skills based on their strengths and weakens and reflect on how to improve them. Post information in a structured online wiki
